A musician is required to know the frequencies you generate from your instrument first. If you want to know this there are so many diagrams available on the internet for you to download.
Here I will give you two charts so that you will have a general understanding of what I am talking about.
If you are a musician who does not know the spectrum range of your instrument, you will face a lot of difficulty in getting the best out of your instrument and the sound you create will have a lot of unwanted overtones embedded.
There again, all these would be fine if you have your overall sound tuned to a flat response. What and how you achieve a flat response on your system?
How do you know that your sound is tuned to a flat response?
The human male voice frequency range of a normal singer is from 110Hz to 12000KHz unless you are Barry White. When you talk and sing if you hear your normal natural voice over the system, you could say you are 95% close to a flat response tuning of your system. If you could achieve this without equalizing your channel you could be absolute that the system is 100% tuned to a flat response.
If you achieve this natural voice after equalizing your channel strip, then you have to tune the system or the overall system equalizer accordingly so that the system will get the flat frequency response of the system after adjusting the main EQ.
Once you adjust your system accordingly, even your instrument will sound right as you use the designated frequencies are used on your channel EQ settings.
I hope this content is helpful to you and hope to bring many more articles in the near future so that being a musician, you will enhance your knowledge of how to achieve the best results from your sound system.
Remember whatever you produce through your speakers, it should be very soothing to the ears of the listener.
